They used the iPads to explore several geometry apps, focusing on shapes and symmetry, as well as using the computers to learn LogoPaths. This is a programming language, used to explore geometrical relationships, patterns and angles by moving a turtle along different paths. They are now working on addition and subtraction concepts, exploring different ways to solve equations, working towards ones that are most efficient.
The fourth graders completed a unit on measurement and 2-dimensional geometry. They compared, constructed and classified shapes, noting specific attributes. The learned about acute, obtuse and right angles, and measured them, using shapes with known angles, as well as protractors to get a more accurate measurement. They reviewed and extended their knowledge of area and perimeter, using both standard and nonstandard units.
