| Earlier in September, we checked out the brook across the road, noting the trees and plants in the area. We also collected special rocks, which we took back to the classroom to paint. |
On Tuesday, September 30, third and fourth grade students joined kindergarten students to learn more about Chase Brook. We hiked up the Nature Trail, and then continued beyond the turn. There we met up with Laura Dlugolecki, a Stormwater Specialist, working for the Winooski Natural Resources Conservation District, and Jamie Masterson, a Fish Biologist, working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The students were fascinated as Jamie “stunned” brook trout, and then counted and tagged them. Some students even took turns petting the fish! We also learned about erosion, and did some planting to hold back the soil.
