Students learned about the structure of the human ear and how sound travels to the brain. They also discovered that some animals have their “ears” located in some very different places. Two examples are, that crickets have their eardrums on their knees, while moths have them on their abdomens.
Activities also revolved around the idea of sound traveling in waves, and moving differently through solids, liquids and gases. They used a variety of materials to explore these concepts, including a slinky, a coat hanger and a grill! They also experimented with different sizes of tuning forks. We ended class outside, doing some sound mapping.
